English PEN : Welcome Bi Feiyu

English PEN’s Writers in Translation programme needs you!

we welcome Chinese writer Bi Feiyu to the UK. Bi is one of the most respected authors and screenwriters in China today; his books have won the Xu Lun prize, the Chinese equivalent of the Man Booker, twice since 1995 and been longlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction prize here in Britain. His new novel, Three Sisters, is an epic portrayal of life in rural and urban Communist China in the 1970s and 1980s under Mao Zedong.

Bi will be appearing at Foyles next Tuesday 20th July, in conversation with the Guardian’s Richard Lea, to discuss Three Sisters. Details of the event are below, and a flyer is attached. We are also holding a film night here at the Free Word Centre on Wednesday 21st – again, details below and attached.

We’d like to make sure that Bi has a good audience for these events, so please come along if you can.

Thanks, Sophie
