In the course of this workshop, poet, theorist and curator Ranjit Hoskote will explore how poems are formed and sculpted, how poets can identify the strengths and weakness of their poems, how poets can assess the opportunities and threats that attend their literary practice. Hoskote will work with the participants to demonstrate how a text cries out for its own form, to adapt the celebrated leitmotif of the Japanese avant-garde Gutai group: “Attend to the cry of the material!”

Requirements: whiteboard and markers. Pads and pens for participants.

Please bring your own paper / notepad and writing materials to the workshop. Please also bring a poem you like or one that interests you and a text you have written.
